Summary

New York Times bestseller Lisa Kleypas returns with an enthralling and steaming romance between a widowed lady and a Scot on the run—who may have connections to one of London's most noble families。

“The devil never tries to make people do the wrong thing by scaring them。 He does it by tempting them。”

Lady Merritt Sterling, a strong-willed young widow who’s running her late husband’s shipping company, knows London society is dying to catch her in a scandal。 So far, she’s been too smart to provide them with one。 But then she meets Keir MacRae, a rough-and-rugged Scottish whisky distiller, and all her sensible plans vanish like smoke。 They couldn’t be more different, but their attraction is powerful, raw and irresistible。

From the moment Keir MacRae arrives in London, he has two goals。 One: don’t fall in love with the dazzling Lady Merritt Sterling。 Two: avoid being killed。

So far, neither of those is going well。

Keir doesn’t know why someone wants him dead until fate reveals his secret connection to one of England’s most powerful families。 His world is thrown into upheaval, and the only one he trusts is Merritt。

Their passion blazes with an intensity Merritt has never known before, making her long for the one thing she can’t have from Keir MacRae: forever。 As danger draws closer, she’ll do whatever it takes to save the man she loves。。。 even knowing he might be the devil in disguise。

Not her best, but still a good read with lots of detailed sex scenes。 Her Scot is a lusty fellow。

Imagine my surprise and delight when I got to skip the line for my library hold on “Devil in Disguise” by Queen Lisa。 This is her most recent release, and is the 7th book in the Ravenels series。 📚This features the story of Merritt Sterling, a young window that is running her husband’s shipping company, and Keir MacRae, a Scottish whiskey maker that is moving some cargo using her company。 When these two meet, sparks start flying big time。 Due to Keir’s past, a past he has had little idea about, s Imagine my surprise and delight when I got to skip the line for my library hold on “Devil in Disguise” by Queen Lisa。 This is her most recent release, and is the 7th book in the Ravenels series。 📚This features the story of Merritt Sterling, a young window that is running her husband’s shipping company, and Keir MacRae, a Scottish whiskey maker that is moving some cargo using her company。 When these two meet, sparks start flying big time。 Due to Keir’s past, a past he has had little idea about, someone has put a hit out on him and he has some brushes with death。😱I’ve heard some people don’t love the Insta-love nature of this book, but to be frank, given how crappy things are in the news right now, I really appreciated that aspect of it。 Gimme the warm fuzzies! 💘It was also great to meet up again with Marcus and Lillian, Evie and Lord St。 Vincent。 I love a good reunion tour!👯‍♀️🥃Fancy a dram of whiskey? ☑️⌨️Typewriter keepsake? ☑️👳🏼‍♂️Amnesia twist? ☑️🥵Sex on the beach? ☑️💗True love? ☑️☑️☑️ 。。。more

From the first sentence, I was hooked。 Going from a bland, disappointing book to this one was like going from plain white bread to the most delicious pastry confection ever imagined。 The skill with which Ms。 Kleypas writes from all different viewpoints makes the story。(view spoiler)[ That said, I was rather disappointed in the ending。 It seemed as if the author decided that it was time to finish & just cut it off。 (hide spoiler)] From the first sentence, I was hooked。 Going from a bland, disappointing book to this one was like going from plain white bread to the most delicious pastry confection ever imagined。 The skill with which Ms。 Kleypas writes from all different viewpoints makes the story。(view spoiler)[ That said, I was rather disappointed in the ending。 It seemed as if the author decided that it was time to finish & just cut it off。 (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Yay, another Ravenel book。 totally enjoyed this。 As usual, any Lisa Klepas book in on my immediate read pile。 This one didn't disappoint。 But。。。my only mini complaint is the fact that there wasn't much about Merrit's life before。 The story started a little abruptly but was still enjoyable。Can't wait for more。 Yay, another Ravenel book。 totally enjoyed this。 As usual, any Lisa Klepas book in on my immediate read pile。 This one didn't disappoint。 But。。。my only mini complaint is the fact that there wasn't much about Merrit's life before。 The story started a little abruptly but was still enjoyable。Can't wait for more。 。。。more

I loved the continuing story of the Wallflowers and Ravenals! I will read every story Lisa Kleypas has to offer from these characters!

A bit of a misfireI love Lisa Kleypas, her books are generally fantastic, as was this one, for the first 90%。 Then it all goes a bit limp。 There's so much crammed into the last 10% of the book, it's like it was finished in a rush because she had to put the kids to bed! Her books have so much substance, and emotion, this is no exception, but the ending feels really rushed and shallow。 A bit of a misfireI love Lisa Kleypas, her books are generally fantastic, as was this one, for the first 90%。 Then it all goes a bit limp。 There's so much crammed into the last 10% of the book, it's like it was finished in a rush because she had to put the kids to bed! It's all relative。 If this were another romance author I might bump it up to 4 stars, but this is Kleypas and it just felt really thin。 I'm having a hard time figuring out what the problem was。 I liked both leads, the Wallflower inclusion was organic and made sense, it just didn't hit it out of the park。 The insta-love didn't help。 Nor did the setting where they basically did a lot of the same things we've seen others do time and again。 The author's note talked about a bunch of research that Kle It's all relative。 If this were another romance author I might bump it up to 4 stars, but this is Kleypas and it just felt really thin。 I'm having a hard time figuring out what the problem was。 I liked both leads, the Wallflower inclusion was organic and made sense, it just didn't hit it out of the park。 The insta-love didn't help。 Nor did the setting where they basically did a lot of the same things we've seen others do time and again。 The author's note talked about a bunch of research that Kleypas got sucked into, but it didn't come to life on the page like it usually does with her。 The subject matter is actually very interesting, but it just all came off bland, which is just so surprising from this author。 There was a lot going on, and a lot happened to Keir, but it didn't seem to have much impact on either he nor Merritt。 And some things didn't even really make sense。 Like (view spoiler)[the school idea。 What was that? He doesn't have to live at his estate, he can hire a good steward。 His new in-laws and biological family have lots of contacts that could get him set up。 He can live his life most of the time in Islay if he wants to。 Why turn the estate into a school? And he doesn't want to live there because his mother was unhappy there? He didn't even know her and, as I said, he doesn't have to live there。 But he and Merritt seem to be making plans to run a school when they both have businesses already。 And what about Duffy being a teacher of all things? Now that was just as convenient as the old viscount dying suddenly。 I was also a little disappointed in the reaction of Westcliff and Lillian。 Not a stitch of discomfort from her parents that she's shagging this guy they've never met? Maybe not in this day and age, but at that time in history? They've been worried about rumors and here those rumors are decidedly proven true and 。。。 just a big "oh well"。 (hide spoiler)] All of that seemed really slap dash。 ETA: there also seemed to be more (or maybe just longer) sex scenes than usual。 I've found that the thinner the story is, the more sex an author throws in as padding。 It wasn't necessary for this story to have that many pages dedicated to sex scenes。 End ETASo I'm kinda disappointed in this one。 。。。more

Lady Merritt Sterling, eldest child of Lillian and Marcus (from It Happened One Autumn) falls head over heels instantly with whisky distiller Keir McCrae in 1880's London。Not only a lovely romance with all kinds of interesting historical details, but the reader gets plenty of time with old friends like Sebastian and Marcus。 I couldn't put it down。 Lady Merritt Sterling, eldest child of Lillian and Marcus (from It Happened One Autumn) falls head over heels instantly with whisky distiller Keir McCrae in 1880's London。Not only a lovely romance with all kinds of interesting historical details, but the reader gets plenty of time with old friends like Sebastian and Marcus。 I couldn't put it down。 。。。more

This is book #7 of The Ravenels。 The book continues the story of the Ravenels as they meet the Wallflowers。 Who would have thought in a romance novel that you would learn about mustache cups? These were created by a British potter, Harvey Adams, in the 1860s。 The cup had a ledge inside the rim of the cup to keep the mustache wax from the heat of the tea。 Who would have thought you would learn about the Scottish doctor, Alexander Wood, who invented the hypodermic syringe with a hollow needle。 The This is book #7 of The Ravenels。 The book continues the story of the Ravenels as they meet the Wallflowers。 Who would have thought in a romance novel that you would learn about mustache cups? Ok couple but nothing really happened。 The "villain" was taken out off stage by circumstances。。。kind of anticlimactic。 It seems that Kleypas wrote it to satisfy people who are obsessed with St。 Vincent and Lillian and wanted them to have closure and to tie their families together with a bow。 Kleypas also made the heroine's first husband be really insensitive for no apparent reason。 It was unnecessary to the story。 Ok couple but nothing really happened。 The "villain" was taken out off stage by circumstances。。。kind of anticlimactic。 It seems that Kleypas wrote it to satisfy people who are obsessed with St。 Vincent and Lillian and wanted them to have closure and to tie their families together with a bow。 Kleypas also made the heroine's first husband be really insensitive for no apparent reason。 It was unnecessary to the story。 。。。more

I am just SO TIRED of HRs where the woman is positive she can’t have children right up until she magically (and very quickly!) gets impregnated by the Superman that is the male lead character。 Sigh。 It is completely overdone and I’m sick of it。 Either adopt, choose to not be a parent, or go with a different storyline for crying out loud。 Even apart from that plot point, this is such an odd book。 I mean we don’t “meet” the male protagonist’s adopted mom, dad, bio mom, OR the villain。 His friends and employees are barely present。 Instead the pages are filled with his new bio dad’s family and staff, and the female protagonist’s family。 It just felt “off” in that sense。 It was so unbalanced。And then you factor in all the crazy tropes thrown into one book: love at first sight, one night stand, amnesia, murder mystery, surprise bio daddy, he’s not good enough for her, she’s bucking convention, she expertly nurses the ill man back to health, elopement, “surprise” pregnancy where all-knowing strangers realize she’s pregnant before she does…。 It’s all just far more cliched than I’ve come to expect from Kleypas。 She usually has stronger, more nuanced writing。 It honestly felt like she didn’t know what in the world to do with this, and struggled in quarantine to make a solid, sensible addition to the series。 And where are the Ravenals? I wanted way more of them。 We barely get Phoebe, and not her older sons or West who we’ve grown to love。 Ethan was sort of present, but had zero personality (his book and his character overall had potential but just haven’t lived up to my hopes/expectations)。I’m saying 3 stars b/c the conversations involving the Wallflowers characters were pleasant to read。 And Keir’s Scottish perspective was fun。 Frankly, I love this series so it would hurt my heart too much to rate it any lower than 3 stars。 But I certainly don’t want to reread Book #4 or this one any time soon… I’ll just ignore that they’re part of the Ravenals series, frankly。 。。。more
